Legend about Saint Valentine
They believe that there was a priest in Rome in the 3d century AD. He sent the first valentine card. He lived during the time of Emperor Claudius II. The empire was in deep crises. All men were sent to serve the country. The sovereign banned marriages. He made all male population of Rome Empire soldiers.
Not all people agreed with these harsh methods.
They say that there was a priest. He despite all odds and danger continued arranging secret marriages. Once the authorities caught him. They sentenced him to death. In jail he fell in love with a nice girl. She was a daughter of a priest’s jailer. On the day of his execution he left a love letter signed Your Valentine. It was his way to say a farewell.
This card’s design idea came to me out of the blue. At that moment I knew nothing about Islamic art. Nevertheless, gorgeous floral motives impressed me deeply. I took a pencil and dared to create a sketch trying to do my best. I didn’t follow any rules. Later, when I started learning Islamic art, it got to me that there are rules you need to follow precisely. Back then I just listened to my heart painting this artwork. I wanted to show the beauty of love, the purity of the feeling. It is full of hope, expectations, hugs, and kisses.
